The art of traveling is not the same for everybody. Some prefer to go to luxury resorts and crowded big cities. But this time, for those that love going to quiet places and connect with the natural world, here are 10 tips I was given that I think helped me the most during my trekking trip to Tepuy Roraima, that can fit any other type of hiking, camping, or any other related journey.

1. Ziploc is your new best friend. I am not promoting Ziploc specifically; you can use any zipper plastic storage bag you want, but buy them. Organize all the clothing in a way you can fit everything inside the bags. That will protect them from getting wet and it will also maintain order inside the backpack. This is also useful for minimizing as much as you can what you are taking to the trip.
2. To sleep, go for foam pads. Other kind of mattresses for sleeping are too heavy. The foam pads are lighter, cheaper and waterproof.

3. Cover in Vaseline. Buy the smallest pot and every morning before the trekking starts, cover your feet in Vaseline to avoid blisters, or if you already have them, it will help with the irritation.

4. Do not be afraid to take candies. They are lifesavers, as you are walking up a hill, they will help you boost your energy.
5. Do not take clothes made of cotton, instead go for dry-fit and light clothing that dries quick.
6. Take bathing suits as underwear. They dry quicker and serve the same purpose.
7. Take with you at least 10 pairs of socks! You will need them.
8. Use a microfiber towel, lighter to carry and faster to dry.
9. Sunscreen, mosquito-repellent spray, and a first aid kit can’t be left out.
10. Enjoy it. Do not be afraid of embracing nature and the real you. It will amaze you.
