That has resulted in the shortages of food, water, and electricity. Now the world's higher hyperinflation and crime rate. Massive protests against the regime have ended in dozens of deaths and thousands of political prisoners. It has also become in one of the worst refugee displacements the hemisphere has seen.

Sadly, it is not. Foreign tourists are easier targets for criminals. But it is not impossible for those who want to take the risk. It is mostly recommended to find a local guide and hire private security when visiting the main cities. Most of the national parks, keys and small islands are safe places for tourists.
